The Golden Flower B+
by Seth on Dec.30, 2009, under Food
Last night, my good friend Nessa returned from her extended stay in Alaska for the holidays so we decided to celebrate and venture out to a new restaurant. Since I live in Downtown Reno, we had many options but we finally settled on “The Golden Flower” (http://www.goldenflowerreno.com/) .
Immediately when we walked through the door, we realized this was a local hot spot as we could barely find seating. Once we established our seating situation, we briefly scanned the menu and both decided on different variations of Pho. I chose the #1 – Xe Lua : Which included Rare Beef, Meat balls, Tripe and Brisket. Nessa chose the #12 – Tai : Rare Beef only.
Both of our servings were very plentiful and had more than enough Noodles and Meat. Overall I felt that this was a good experience. The service was good and the delivery was SUPER fast which is a plus in my book! I approve.
P.S. – The price was spot on! 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 beers = $19.75. That’s Whats up!

Freemans Natural Hotdogs A+
by Seth on Jun.19, 2009, under Food, Misc.
Yesterday I was driving back to my place and I noticed a new little eatery in Downtown Reno and had to stop by!, “Freemans Natural Hotdogs”. When I walked in I was greeted by a young dude named “Darnell” who was jammin’ on some “Lil Wayne & Yung Money”. I briefly scanned the menu and immediately settled on my choice, “The Ditrty South Dawg”. This Hot Dog included : All Natural Beef Dog, BBQ Sauce, Crumbled Bacon, Browned Onions and Fetta Cheese; All packed into a Onion Sesame Seed bun. Once I received my dog, I immediately took a huge bite and was satisfied completely with all the flavors totally owning my taste buds! Freeman’s was an awesome experience and I would recommend this eatery to anyone who wants to explore the amazing combination’s of the All-American Classic Hot Dog taken to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL! If you like Hot Dogs or want to try a “REAL” DOG..check it out…You will thank me later! For more details on the menu, please visit: www.fnhotdog.com

Trout…It’s whats for dinner.
by Seth on Jun.17, 2009, under Food, Sports
Yesterday evening, I again journeyed down to the great Truckee River and caught a beautiful Brook and Rainbow Trout. On this fine evening, I decided to keep two of my catches and prepare a fresh fish dinner. I rode my bike home, simply gutted the fish, stuffed the trout with Garlic Clove, 2 Bay leaves each, lightly sprinkled Dill Weed, 2 tea spoons of butter, and spriknled both sides of the fishes with Montreal Seasoning (I know..typically for a Steak but TRY IT). Once the seasoning was complete, I wrapped the trout pair in foil, set my oven at 350 degrees and let em’ cook for about 45 mins. To accompany my evening catch, I browned some potatoes in a skillet w/ Olive Oil, Red Onion and White Mushrooms. Also, you can never go wrong with steamed Broccoli florets. After all was said and done, the meal was FANTASTIC! The fish meat was falling off the bone and the Potatoes and Broccoli assisted with the flavor profile perfectly. Check out the pics…they are pretty cool.
Sunday Morning Scrambler at Josef’s Vienna Bakery!
by Seth on Mar.30, 2009, under Food
Yesterday I decided to rise early and dash out of the house to indulge in a nice breakfast and some “ME TIME”. I went to Josef’s Vienna Bakery located on Moana Lane. Unfortunately, I was looking for a quite space and I didn’t realize that Sunday morning at Josef’s would be so crowded but I decided to stay, Good thing I did! I ordered the Spinach and Mushroom Scrambler w/ one side of Sausage Link. M…M…M Good, The scrambler was cooked to perfection and the Spinach and Mushrooms were heavily distributed (no skimping on the veggies). Of course, the sausage link is great anywhere you go but all in all, Josef’s was a delightful escape and experience from the normal breakfast diner scene. Though it was crowded, everybody was deeply involved in there own table which created a very personal environment. Oh! and before I forget, you even get a special little pastry w/ your dish…mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. PERFECT. Outside of Breakfast Josef’s Vienna Bakery specializes in making unique pastries and cakes. Please support your local bakery whether it’s breakfast or cakes…DO IT.

Sparks adds new flavor to Dining-out options!
by Seth on Feb.26, 2009, under Food
Well this Tuesday was of course Fat Tuesday (The first day of Mardi Gras) and I wanted to celebrate. I did some research and found a newly opened place in sparks called “Jazz Cajun Cafe”. This place was slammin! They had live music and from what I was told, the live band place every night and the decoration was as close to authentic as possible but the real test was the FOOD. I am a huge fan of Cajun / Southern food; i was raised in Dallas, TX so when it comes to good Cajun food, I can be quite the critic. Well, I must say that the food was PAR but for the people that are looking for a great experience and a good introduction into the cooking flavors of the Cajun Lands, head down to “Jazz Cajun Cafe”. During our visit at “Jazz Cajun Cafe” we had Boiled Crawfish, Alligator Fritters & Jambalaya….see scorecard below.
SCORE CARD (4+’s being the highest score):
Crawfish: ++

Alligator Fritters: ++

Jambalaya: ++

P.S. THE HOT SAUCE WAS “BOMB!” Especially if you like Lousiana Style (Tomatoe – Vinegar Based) Sauce!- NO DOUBT
The Local’s Breakfast Spot
by Seth on Feb.23, 2009, under Food, Travel
During the weekend in Chico, Me and the boys (Trav, Sinner and Timmy) went to a local breakfast spot called “The Morning Thunder”. The Morning Thunders is a retro style breakfast joint with classic American staples such as Huge Pancakes, Omelltes and Bagel Sandwhiches. Most of there dishes are accompanied by a healthly portion of fried Red Potatoes. I had the Denver Omelette which was awesome. If your are ever in Chico and want to start your day off with a nice breakfast…Definately go to the Morning Thunder!

Great Pizza in Chico, CA!
by Seth on Feb.23, 2009, under Family & Friends, Food, Travel
I had a chance last weekend to spend some time in Chico, CA with my buddies from College. We woke up a bit Hung over on Saturday morning and had a serious hankrin’ for some greasy food so we walked downtown to this place called “WoodStock Pizza”. Of course the menu was huge but we decided to settle on a pizza called “The Meat Orgy”…LOL. All I can say was WOW….Very Meaty and Very Greasy. Of course we each had a liter of beer with the Meat Pie which made for the perfect addition to a hung over Saturday. Overall the pizza was good but the GREASE content was a bit much towards the 3rd slice. Would I eat here again?….Yes but only if I am hung over…ha ha ha.
