Song of the Day – Damon Dotson

by Seth on Jul.29, 2009, under MUSIC!!!!

Great song of Inspiration! Enjoy.

Since emerging onto the Midwest music scene in 2003, Damon Dotson’s demand and popularity have soared. Dotson, who grew up in Okoboji, IA has definitely earned his acclaim from his humble beginnings. He would play backyard parties, graduations, birthdays, living rooms, and to just about anyone who was willing to listen! Often he would travel great distances for no audience and very little pay just to spread his music. However, all of his hard work is paying off! Damon, who now has a religious fan following, is known to pack college venues every time he plays. “It’s normally packed, but for a Damon Dotson show; we’ll draw full capacity,” said one club manager in Ames, IA. Damon is versatile in his performances and songwriting by performing not only as a solo acoustic act, but also with his full band. One reviewer from the Des Moines Register wrote that he has, “the curly locks of Jim Morrison but more of a warmly romantic sound that veers between Dave Matthews and Coldplay.” Dotson has put out one demo, one full studio album, and one live album over the past three and a half years and has sold over a 1,000 albums per year.

In the studio with OUTBOX records

by Seth on Jul.28, 2009, under MUSIC!!!!

Last weekend I was invited by Danny Florentini (Owner) to the Outbox Records Studio to lay down some DOPE DRUM BEATS for the debut album of “Tree Woodz”. I was a little nervous at first as I haven’t been in a studio environment in quite some time but after a couple of run-throughs & beers, I was right back to my old self.  I had a great time and we actually recorded some really Dope Beats!!! It was great to be back in the studio and I can’t wait to hear the tracks after Danny put his magic touch on em’.  Stay tuned and I will be sure to share the tracks once they complete the editing process.  Word Up to the OUTBOX camp & Tree Woodz. This Album is gonna be an instant

Coldplay @ Sleep Train Amphitheatre 7/14/2009

by Seth on Jul.16, 2009, under MUSIC!!!!, Travel

It has been a long time Dream of mine to see Coldplay live and FINALLY my dreams came true.  I was fortunate to take some time off of work and venture to Northern California for the Coldplay concert in Marysville at the “Sleep Train Amphitheatre.”  When we arrived in Marysville, I was concerned about the heat outside; it was a scorching 103 degrees but I assumed once the concert started the sun would be going to bed for the evening and hopefully that would make for a very pleasant evening.  There is is soooooo much to say about Colplay live but I will say this….”Coldplay was the best LIVE performance I have ever witnessed!”.  Though this may seem like a bold statement, I was truly moved by the clarity of sound and overall stage presence of the band.  Coldplay captivated the audience with songs dating back to the late 90’s (when they first busted onto the music scene) to their most current tracks off of “Viva La Vida”.   Coldplay’s set was about 2 hours.  What I love about Coldplay is their ability to control the audience and take us on a musical journey with both the Sounds and the Lights. Also, Colplay gave us a great treat when they performed an acoustic tribute to Michael Jackson playing “Billie Jean”….truly stellar and moving.  I am at a loss of words (which is rare) but If you ever have the chance to see Coldplay Live, PLEASE…PLEASE GO!, you will thank me later. I give Coldplay: +++++ …EXCELLENT!!!!

Spectacular weekend at the 7XL Ranch!

by Seth on Jul.12, 2009, under Travel

This weekend I enjoyed a fabulous get-a-way.  Martin Gastanaga,  invited his employees and family friends up to his Ranch located in Paradise Valley, Nevada (About 3.5 hours East of Reno).  I was told  this  Ranch was one of the most beautiful places in Northern Nevada so I made sure I had my camera ready for this adventure.  I made my journey to the 7XL Ranch Friday evening with fellow employees Rob Gaedtke and Jodie Wendt.  We arrived in the late night but was immediately welcomed by “THE” Martin Gastanaga as he pulled himself out of the High Desert shrubbery shortly after he wrecked his Dirt Bike, but never-the-less, he brushed himself off and led us on the finally stretch to his cabin.  Normally, I would continue write out the rest of the weekend but I made it my goal to capture as much of the weekend from behind my lens as possible so I hope you enjoy the photos, and if you are ever so luck to receive an invite to the 7XL Ranch, GO!!!!…It was a Rockin’ good time!
